Experiment ID: CC-EXP-QMAP-04
Version: 0.1
Date: 19 September 2026
Candidate: Qualified Mapping Assertion Profile (QMAP)
Standing: INTERNAL β GENERIC MAPPING-ASSERTION PRIOR-ART + NAMING REVIEW. NO ADMISSION OR PUBLICATION AUTHORISED.
Question
Before Commons admission:
- is treating mappings as first-class qualified assertions already established?
- what remains distinctive in QMAP?
- is the QMAP name suitable?
Executive result
PASS WITH REDUCTION.
First-class/qualified relationships, provenance-bearing assertions, crosswalk records and mappings-as-resources are established modelling practices.
QMAP should not claim invention of those mechanisms.
Its bounded candidate contribution is:
a cross-domain mapping assertion profile that requires recoverable mapping purpose and provenance, preserves external/domain relation semantics, and keeps mapping existence separate from acceptance, conformance, authority, transformation and runtime permission.
Distinctive profile discipline
QMAP combines:
- mandatory/recoverable mapping purpose;
- mandatory/reconstructable provenance;
- external relation-semantic preservation;
- source/target independence;
- version/lens/applicability awareness;
- mapping-standing separation;
- conflict/supersession preservation;
- mapping β transformation;
- mapping β conformance/authority/runtime permission;
- Commons Non-Promotion Rule.
Purpose challenge
Could purpose be optional for a trivial identifier crosswalk?
Even a legacy-customer-ID to new-customer-ID mapping can serve identity resolution, migration, reporting compatibility or temporary coexistence.
Refinement:
mapping purpose MUST be semantically recoverable.
It may be explicit on each assertion or inherited from an identified Mapping Set/Profile with unambiguous purpose.
Provenance challenge
Provenance may also be inherited from an identified Mapping Set/release if reconstructable.
It need not be duplicated on every atomic assertion.
Supporting construct β Mapping Set
Mapping Set: an identifiable collection of Mapping Assertions sharing declared purpose, provenance/release, source/target scheme/version scope or other common qualification.
A Mapping Set does not replace atomic assertions.
Individual assertion identity remains necessary where assertion-level acceptance, conflict, citation or supersession matters.

Naming review
Qualified Mapping Assertion Profile β QMAP
Accurate and preserves first-class assertion insight.
Risk: βqualifiedβ may sound quality-approved and QMAP may sound tool-like.
Result: PASS.
Mapping Assertion Profile β MAP
Simple but acronym is generic and loses contextual discipline.
Result: HOLD.
Contextual Mapping Assertion Profile β CMAP
Signals context but overemphasises one qualifier and acronym is widely overloaded.
Result: PASS/HOLD.
Purpose-Bound Mapping Assertion Profile
Highlights purpose but is too narrow.
Result: REJECT.
Qualified Mapping Profile
Too short; loses assertion insight.
Result: REJECT.
Naming recommendation
No alternative clearly dominates.
Retain Qualified Mapping Assertion Profile (QMAP) as the controlled candidate name for admission.
Explicit definition:
βQualifiedβ means contextually specified/provenanced, not quality-approved.
Revisit public naming at publication gate.
Prior-art hostile tests
- Generic statement reification already exists β QMAP does not claim invention. PASS.
- SKOS crosswalks exist β reuse relation semantics. PASS.
- Mapping tables with metadata exist β QMAP claims semantic discipline/interoperability, not first implementation. PASS.
- Formal logic derives relation β preserve inference provenance. PASS.
- Mapping Set carries common metadata β allowed with reconstructable inheritance. PASS.
- Mapping lacks stable ID β deterministic/composite identity may suffice locally; stable identity required where cited/contested/accepted/superseded. PASS.
Refined semantic minimum
- identifiable Mapping Assertion;
- source;
- target;
- relation;
- mapping purpose β direct or inherited;
- provenance β direct or inherited.
Where material:
- version/lens;
- applicability/context;
- time;
- standing;
- evidence;
- confidence;
- conflict;
- supersession;
- derivation.
Novelty boundary
Do not claim QMAP invents mapping assertions, qualified relationships, crosswalk provenance or is unique.
Bounded statement:
QMAP packages a tested cross-domain discipline for purpose-bound, provenance-bearing mapping assertions that preserve relation semantics and prevent mappings from being silently promoted into equivalence, conformance, authority or executable transformation.
Admission readiness
Survived:
- generality;
- relation-vocabulary reduction;
- 18 hard cases;
- candidate specification hostile review;
- generic mapping-assertion prior-art;
- naming review.
SEMANTIC ADMISSION READINESS: HIGH.
PUBLICATION READINESS: NOT YET.
Remaining:
- IP/publication review;
- Commons admission decision;
- publication-gate naming review;
- namespace/machine-readable decision after admission.
Recommendation
Prepare CC-ADM-QMAP-01 β Commons Admission Decision Package recommending:
ADMIT AS INTERNAL CONTROLLED COMMONS CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION.
Recognise Mapping Set as supporting construct, not separate profile.
Decision
CC-EXP-QMAP-04 β PASS WITH REDUCTION.
Retain QMAP candidate name for admission.
No admission/publication/namespace/schema authorised.
